On 4th November 1870, Derbyshire County Cricket Club was formed at a meeting in Derby.
Over the ensuing century and a half, Derbyshire cricket has risen to the summit of the domestic game, languished at the bottom, and seen some of the finest players in the world grace the many grounds within the county and beyond.
Since William Mycroft emerged as Derbyshire's first champion fast bowler in the 19th century, Derbyshire has produced an array of fast bowlers including Bill Bestwick, Bill Copson, George Pope, Cliff Gladwin, Les Jackson, Mike Hendrick and Dominic Cork, as well as some outstanding batsmen including England Test cricketers Stan Worthington, Denis Smith, Donald Carr, Kim Barnett and John Morris.
With a long line of great wicket-keepers, none finer than the world record holder, Bob Taylor, as well as outstanding spin bowlers such as Tommy Mitchell and Geoff Miller, Derbyshire saw their side enhanced in the latter stages of the 20th century with world-class overseas players like Eddie Barlow, John Wright, Peter Kirsten, Michael Holding and Mohammad Azharuddin.
To celebrate 150 years of cricket at Derbyshire the club commissioned UK based Sports Artist, SPARKIUS to create a series of artworks commemorating the cricketers who have played an integral part in the club's history.
A selection of original artwork featuring key players was created and final images were integrated into three specific projects.
